According to the centre's director Mohamad Rozi Hassan, it was commissioned by the State Secretary's Office to come up with a module to train drivers attached with government departments.
“The geography of Pahang is such that it requires the use of 4x4 vehicles.
“The departments have a large number of a variety of vehicles, but some drivers lack knowledge and practical skills in maintenance,” he said when met after the course's closing by State Secretary Datuk Muhammad Safian Ismail at UMP's Gambang campus here recently.
Also present was UMP vice chancellor Prof Datuk Dr Daing Nasir Ibrahim.
Mohamad Rozi said the module was developed by UMP with experts in driving, maintenance and servicing of 4x4 vehicles.
In his speech, he hoped the course would enable the participants to improve their competency in handling the vehicles.
“With the current high oil prices, the Government has to restructure its oil and gas subsidies so that more focus can be given to people-centric projects.
“The impact of high oil prices has caused us to be more prudent in spending,” he added.
Daing Nasir said he welcomed the cooperation fostered with the State Secretary's Office and hoped it would be taken to a higher level so that the state could benefit from opportunities provided by UMP.
He said, with UMP's expertise and facilities, there could be cooperation in other areas such as human capital development, education, social research and economy.
He said that Cenfed had obtained the MS-ISO 9001:2000 (External Learning) from agencies such as Pembangunan Sumber Manusia Berhad, Construction Industry Development Board, Occupational Safety and Health Department and Small and Medium Industries Development Corporation.
